Best Deck Boxes for TCG Storage in 2026: Full Buying Guide

An 80-card box fits a full tournament kit for every game we cover. Commander is the one that needs 100.

Our callBuy an Ultimate Guard Boulder 80+ for one deck in any game we cover, a Dragon Shield Deck Shell if price is everything, and a 100-card box only for Commander.

The best deck boxes for TCG players are the boring 80-card ones. An 80 double-sleeved box like Ultimate Guard's Boulder 80+ or Dragon Shield's Deck Shell holds a complete tournament kit for every game we cover, side deck included. Only Magic Commander needs the 100-card size, and only collections need anything bigger.

Chart of six deck boxes filled to each game's sleeved tournament kit, with only Commander's 100 cards overflowing an 80-card box

Updated October 22, 2026: We checked every box against its maker's page today and added prices, the Strongbox and Nest+ 100 for Commander, the Arkhive 800+'s real capacity, and a chart of how many sleeved cards each game's official rules put in your box. We also fixed our Union Arena line (it's 50 cards plus 3 AP cards, not 60) and dropped the Omnihive, which we couldn't confirm.

How many cards your game puts in the box

Start here, because it decides everything else. These counts come from each game's official rules; side decks and sideboards are optional and only matter in best-of-three events.

Bar chart comparing sleeved cards per tournament kit with deck box capacity: One Piece 61, Union Arena 53, Lorcana 60, Fusion World 51 to 76, Riftbound 56 to 66, Commander 100, against lines at 80 and 100 double-sleeved Image: ShonenTCG chart from official deck rules and maker capacity figures, made with scripts/sims/deck-box-fit.py.

Every game except Commander fits under 80 double-sleeved. The tightest is a maxed-out Fusion World kit (a 60-card deck plus a full side deck), with only four slots to spare. Riftbound with a full sideboard still has room for a few tokens.

Best for most players: Ultimate Guard Boulder 80+. It's rated for 80 double-sleeved, 100 single-sleeved or 170 unsleeved cards, with a soft-touch shell and a lid that stays shut. Ultimate Guard notes the figures assume its own sleeves, so thicker inners can make it snug. It also comes in 40+, 60+, 100+ and 133+ sizes.

Best cheap box: Dragon Shield Deck Shell. Same 80 double-sleeved rating, a divider, and a writing field for the deck name. On Dragon Shield's US store the Deck Shell is currently sold as the limited-edition Double Shell, $4.79.

Best for Commander: Strongbox or Nest+ 100. A Commander deck is exactly 100 cards, so you need a box rated for 100 double-sleeved. The Strongbox is the budget pick at $7.99; the Nest+ 100 holds 100+ double-sleeved, opens out to work as a card holder during play, and costs $34.99.

If you want something nicer: Dragon Box 80+. Dragon Shield's newer 80-card box is rated for 100 single, 80 double or 60 triple-sleeved cards and costs $24.99. It was marked "coming soon" when we checked.

Best deck box for Riftbound

A Riftbound kit comes in five parts. In constructed, it's exactly 40 Main Deck cards, 1 Legend, 12 runes and 3 battlefields, and a best-of-three event adds a sideboard of up to 10. That's 66 sleeved cards at most, so the Boulder 80+ fits it.

Players on r/riftboundtcg agree. u/SigBoda, who double-sleeves with Dragon Shield's sealable inners, wrote that "the boulder fits Legend + Deck + Runes + Battlefields + Sideboard perfectly. It's a little snug but not enough to damage anything". In another thread, u/UnstoppableGROND said the 80+ "still fits a deck, runes, battlefield, side deck, and legend" with thicker inner sleeves, though "it's a bit of a squeeze".

If you're new to the game, our Riftbound how-to-play guide explains what the runes and battlefields do.

Carrying several decks, and storing the rest

Arkhive 800+. This is a case, not a deck box. Ultimate Guard rates it for about 900 double-sleeved cards, or eight Boulder 100+ boxes, with a magnetic closure. Put your 80-card boxes inside it when you bring more than one deck.

Ultra Pro PRO-Storage 3-Drawer Organizer. For the cards you don't play: three drawers "sized to hold 1,000+ standard trading cards (500+ double-sleeved)". It stays on a shelf.

Keep your best single cards out of both. They belong in toploaders or card savers or a binder.

JunkSeeker's comparison of 30 deck boxes is long, but it's a good way to see how each one opens and closes before you buy:

Our take

Don't overthink this. Buy one 80-card box per deck, and buy the one you like the look of: the Boulder 80+ if you want the safe pick, the Deck Shell if you want to spend the least. The capacity numbers on the box are for the maker's own sleeves, so if you double-sleeve with thick inners, check our sleeve brand comparison first and leave a little room. Go up to 100 only for Commander. For One Piece players, our sleeves and accessories guide covers the rest of the kit.

How we checked this: we read each box's capacity and price on the maker's store and each game's deck rules on October 22, and counted the sleeved cards per game with scripts/sims/deck-box-fit.py. Header image: ShonenTCG chart of the same counts, drawn with scripts/sims/hero-swap-1022.py.
