Union Arena
Union Arena Bleach Ichigo deck guide time: while newer franchises like Chainsaw Man and Sakamoto Days have grabbed recent tournament headlines, Bleach has quietly stayed a real, currently-competitive franchise since UE01BT launched, most recently backed by a 3rd-place finish at the July 31, 2026 Wave 1 regional (a Green build, more on that below). This guide covers the actual printed card text behind Purple's Ichigo Kurosaki engine, the community-favored Green alternative, and where the honest gaps in tournament data currently sit.
TL;DR: Purple Ichigo runs on Ichigo Kurosaki (UE01BT/BLC-1-041, 5-cost, 4000 BP), a Raid Character whose When Played ability mills the top 2 cards of your deck into your sideline, then lets you move any number of those into your removal area, each one cutting 500 BP off a chosen opponent front-liner. Green Toshiro Hitsugaya control (UE01BT/BLC-1-085) is the build community rankings currently rate strongest, and it's also the one Bandai's official results archive credits with a 3rd-place finish at the July 31, 2026 Wave 1 regional. Purple Ichigo remains a separately legitimate, staple archetype without its own recent official placement logged yet.
Mill cards off the top of your deck into the sideline with Ichigo Kurosaki, then choose how many of those to burn into the removal area to strip BP off a single opponent character, sometimes enough to make it too weak to hold the line. It's a removal-math deck, not a straightforward beatdown plan, and how many cards you're willing to spend from your own sideline each turn is the real decision point.
Ichigo Kurosaki (UE01BT/BLC-1-041, SR) is a 5-cost Purple Raid Character with 4000 BP. His When Played ability places the top 2 cards of your deck into your sideline, then lets you move any number of cards already in your sideline into your removal area. For every card moved that way, you choose up to one character on your opponent's front line and it loses 500 BP for each card removed, until end of turn.
That scaling is the whole point: dump 2 cards into the removal area off one activation and you've only shaved 1000 BP, a minor tempo hit. Build up a fuller sideline over a few turns first, then cash in 4-5 cards in one activation, and you're looking at a 2000-2500 BP swing against a single blocker, often enough to clear it outright against anything short of the format's biggest bodies.
Ichigo Kurosaki's When Played ability: mill 2 cards to the sideline, then convert any number of sidelined cards into a scaling BP reduction against one opponent character.
As a Raid Character, Ichigo also has a second mode: add him to your hand normally, or if you have the required Purple energy already committed, perform Raid with him directly from wherever he currently sits. That flexibility means he's rarely a dead draw, even on turns where you'd rather bank sideline cards than commit him as a body.

Not every competitive Bleach build runs Purple. Green Toshiro Hitsugaya control is a real, separately-viable archetype built around locking down an opponent's board instead of grinding it down with removal.
Toshiro Hitsugaya (UE01BT/BLC-1-085, SR) is a 4-cost Green Raid Character with 4000 BP and the [Thirteen Court Guard Squads] affinity tag. His When Played ability switches one chosen opponent front-line character to resting, where it stays until the end of their next attack phase. Once you have 6 or more other [Thirteen Court Guard Squads] affinity cards on your own field, the ability upgrades: instead of hitting one character, you switch that character and every character on the opponent's entire energy line to resting at once, a full tempo lockdown rather than a single-target tap.
Toshiro Hitsugaya's When Played ability: rest one opponent character, or the opponent's entire energy line once the affinity count is high enough.
The tradeoff against Purple Ichigo is straightforward: Toshiro's payoff is bigger but conditional on hitting a real affinity count first, while Ichigo's removal scales with whatever you've already got sitting in your sideline, no build-up condition required. Which one suits you depends on whether you'd rather play a patient lockdown game or a more reactive removal-math one.
1. Play Ichigo Kurosaki as early as your curve allows. Even a single activation starts feeding your sideline, and the earlier you start banking cards there, the bigger your removal swings get later in the game.
2. Don't cash in your sideline the turn you get it. The scaling reward for moving multiple cards into the removal area in one activation is real. Spending 2 cards for a minor 1000 BP tap when you could wait a turn and spend 4-5 for a real knockout hit is usually the wrong sequencing.
3. Time your biggest removal activation against a real blocker, not a throwaway target. Save the full-sideline dump for the specific character that's actually stopping your attack, the same way you'd hold a removal spell in any other card game.
4. Track your opponent's front-line BP totals before committing. This deck wins on math. Know exactly how much reduction clears the character you're targeting before you decide how many sideline cards to burn.
Don't treat Ichigo as a body first. His stat line is fine, but his real value is the removal engine attached to him. Playing him purely for the 4000 BP and ignoring the ability wastes the card.
If you're building the Green alternate instead, count your [Thirteen Court Guard Squads] affinity cards before you commit to a build. Toshiro's upgraded, full-energy-line lockdown only triggers past 6 other affinity cards on the field, so a build that's light on that tag never actually unlocks his strongest mode.
Both builds reward patience over racing. Bleach isn't the format's fastest aggro plan, and forcing an early race against a deck built to go wide and fast usually loses that race outright.
Bandai's own official top-placing decks archive shows Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War taking 3rd place at the Championship 26-27 Wave 1 regional on July 31, 2026, behind Jujutsu Kaisen in 1st and Rurouni Kenshin in 2nd, and ahead of Sakamoto Days in 4th. That result belongs to a Green build, which lines up with this site's own broader Bleach coverage naming Green Toshiro (and Kenpachi Zaraki) control as the archetype current community rankings rate strongest. That's a genuinely recent, official result, not a stale launch-window placement. Purple Ichigo, the build this guide focuses on, doesn't have its own official regional placement logged yet, but independent competitive analysis, including Joseph Writer Anderson's community deck-strategy coverage, separately describes it as a format staple with a track record stretching back to the set's original launch.
Treat Bleach overall as a real, currently-viable franchise rather than a launch-era one that's since fallen off, whichever color you build. Green has the fresher official proof point right now; Purple has the longer community-backed track record. Neither is the format's single best deck the way Evangelion or Rurouni Kenshin's cumulative placement totals are, but both are proven, still-winning options.

Is Purple Ichigo a good deck in Union Arena? Yes. Community trackers and independent deck-strategy writers describe Purple Ichigo as a staple with a proven tournament track record since UE01BT's launch, though its Green cousin (Toshiro Hitsugaya control) is the build current community rankings rate strongest and the one credited with a 3rd-place finish at the July 31, 2026 Wave 1 regional per Bandai's official archive.
What does Ichigo Kurosaki's card actually do? Ichigo Kurosaki (UE01BT/BLC-1-041, SR, 5-cost, 4000 BP) is a Raid Character. When Played, place the top 2 cards of your deck into your sideline, then move any number of those cards into your removal area. For each card moved this way, an opponent's chosen front-line character loses 500 BP until end of turn.
Is there a different color build for Bleach in Union Arena? Yes. Green Toshiro Hitsugaya control is a real alternate archetype. Toshiro Hitsugaya (UE01BT/BLC-1-085, SR) switches an opponent's front-line character to resting when played, and can lock an opponent's entire energy line too once 6+ other Thirteen Court Guard Squads cards are on the field.
What is the Raid mechanic and why does it matter for this deck? Raid lets a card in your hand be played as a resource instead of a normal play, if you have the energy for it. Ichigo and Toshiro are both Raid Characters, so the deck's key threats double as flexible resources on turns where drawing into them isn't immediately useful as a body.
Is this a good deck for new Union Arena players? It's playable but not the easiest on-ramp. The sideline-to-removal-area sequencing on Ichigo's ability takes a game or two to read correctly, since the BP reduction scales with how many cards you choose to move, not a fixed number. A simpler top-tier deck is generally friendlier for a first Union Arena deck.
