Kaido EB05 Decklist: The Purple Ramp Build After EB-05
Black Maria makes Kaido find King a little more often. The Luffy decks are still the problem.
Our call16 Kaido lists went 35-38 in EB-05 events, 8-4 against Rocks and 0-8 against four Luffy Leaders. crossai8's 6-0 list costs $226, $151 of it in two cards.
The Kaido EB05 decklist to copy is crossai8's: 1st of 64 at [EB05] ChinoizeCup #128 on October 27, six wins and no losses. It's the purple

Those 16 lists went 35-38 combined. They beat Rocks, the most played Leader, 8-4, and went 0-8 against four different Luffy Leaders. Two lines are $150.82 of the $226.15: four Mamaragan at $101.24 and the single promo Yamato at $49.58. The other 45 cards and the Leader come to $75.33. The Characters doing the ramping cost almost nothing: four King are $1.48.

The ramp chain: Yamato, Queen, King, then 10 DON!!
Kaido the Leader has 5 Life and 5000 power. Bandai's card list gives it one effect: "[When Attacking]/[On Your Opponent's Attack] [Once Per Turn] DON!! −1: Give up to 1 of your opponent's Characters −2000 power during this turn." Every list is built to have DON!! to spare for that, and the cards that get it there are cheap.
OP17-074
OP17-074Shop on TCGplayer Yamato is a 3-cost Blocker whose On Play adds 1 rested DON!! from your DON!! deck.
EB04-032
EB04-032Shop on TCGplayer Queen costs 1, and once per turn you can rest 2 of your DON!! to add 1 more, rested, with an Animal Kingdom Pirates Leader. Her On Play also lets you trash an Animal Kingdom Pirates card from your hand to draw 2.
OP17-073
OP17-073Shop on TCGplayer Basil Hawkins costs 3, and if you trash a card from your hand he adds 1 DON!! as active. All 16 lists ran four Yamato and four Queen, and Hawkins averaged 3.88 copies.
All of that is to land
EB04-031
EB04-031Shop on TCGplayer King on time. He costs 6, has 7000 power, and once per turn adds 1 DON!! as active and another rested, as long as your Leader is Animal Kingdom Pirates and you have no other King out. If he'd be K.O.'d, you can return 1 DON!! from your field instead. Every one of the 16 lists ran four.
At the top end,
OP17-062
OP17-062Shop on TCGplayer Kaido is a 10-cost, 12000-power Blocker. On your turn, once per turn, when a DON!! on your field goes back to your DON!! deck, he adds 1 DON!! as active and then sets 1 of your DON!! active. The Leader's DON!! −1 on an attack is exactly that kind of return, so with this Kaido out, the first −1 you pay each turn comes back.
Going first you start with 1 DON!! and no draw, then add 2 a turn; going second you start with 2. Neither player battles on their first turn (Bandai comprehensive rules 6-3-1, 6-4-1 and 6-5-6-1). Here's the curve crossai8's costs allow, and the plays we'd make on it:
| Turn | Going first | Going second |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 DON!!: Black Maria or the Claim Event, dig for King | 2 DON!!: Black Maria and the Claim Event |
| 2 | 3 DON!!: Yamato, or Queen and rest 2 for the extra DON!! | 4 DON!!: Yamato plus Black Maria, or Queen, rest 2, plus a searcher |
| 3 | 6 DON!!: King, then his +2 leaves 8 on the field | 7 DON!!: King with 1 to spare, then 9 on the field |
| 4 | 10 DON!!: Kaido OP17-062 or Charlotte Linlin | 10 DON!!: Kaido OP17-062, Linlin, or Queen OP17-065 |
The 10-cost slot has two picks in this list. Charlotte Linlin ST34-004 (four copies) pays DON!! −4 and a card from your hand to put your top card into your Life and set one opposing Character's base power to 0 for the turn.
OP17-065
OP17-065Shop on TCGplayer Queen, a 9-cost 10000 with [Banish], pays DON!! −1 to draw a card and stop up to two opposing Characters with cost 5 or less from attacking until the end of your opponent's next End Phase.
Is Black Maria EB05-037 worth the four slots?
Black Maria EB05-037 is a 1-cost Character with 2000 power and a 2000 Counter. Her On Play looks at the top 3 cards of your deck and adds an Animal Kingdom Pirates card to your hand. King, both Queens, Hawkins, Lead Performers and Kaido OP17-062 all have that type. Yamato OP17-074 (Land of Wano), Linlin (Big Mom Pirates), Sugar and Mamaragan don't, so she can't find them. We're Going to Claim the One Piece!!! OP07-077 does the same job for 1 DON!! with a look at 5, and it can also take Big Mom Pirates cards like Linlin; all 16 lists ran four.
We ran crossai8's list through 100,000 simulated games per line to see when King hits the field, then ran the same games with the four Black Maria slots blank. The model ramps first (Yamato, then Queen, then Hawkins) and spends what's left on searchers until it finds King.
| King on the field by... | Going first | Going second | Going first, Black Maria blank | Going second, Black Maria blank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Turn 3 | 53.0% | 75.2% | 51.8% | 70.3% |
| Turn 4 | 79.8% | 85.2% | 73.1% | 78.3% |
| Turn 5 | 85.3% | 89.1% | 78.1% | 82.5% |
| Turn 6 | 88.8% | 91.8% | 82.0% | 85.7% |

Black Maria is worth about 7 points of King by turn 4, going first or second. On the turn players care about most, turn 3 going first, she adds 1.2 points. That turn needs a 3-DON!! ramp play on turn 2, which uses all three DON!!, so she only gets to dig on turn 1. The model never attacks or uses a Counter, so it ignores DON!! −X costs; treat these as a setup best case. Even so, about 1 game in 5 going first has no King by turn 4.
The event records can't see it yet. The 14 lists with Black Maria went 30-34. The two without went 5-4, and one of those was anbornsky, who cut her for two copies of the older Black Maria OP08-074 and went 4-2 for 12th at ChinoizeCup #127, after a 3-4 with her the week before. Nine games is noise. We'd still play her: four copies cost $1.72, and 7 more games in 100 with King down by turn 4 is worth that.
What the other 15 lists changed
The core never moved. Ten cards were in all 16 lists: Queen EB04-032, Yamato, King and the Claim Event at four copies each, then Mamaragan (3.94 on average), Hawkins (3.88), Kaido OP17-062 (3.88),
OP17-061
OP17-061Shop on TCGplayer Lead Performers (3.31), Linlin (3.19) and Queen OP17-065 (2.31). The flex slots split like this:
| Card | Lists (of 16) | Average copies |
|---|---|---|
| Slow-Slow Beam Sword OP07-076 | 14 | 3.00 |
| Kaido OP17-063 | 14 | 2.43 |
| Gum-Gum Lightning OP09-077 | 7 | 1.57 |
| Wo Ro Ro Ro Ro... I Think I've Sobered Up OP17-076 | 7 | 1.43 |
| Flame Dragon Torch EB04-040 | 7 | 1.43 |
| Kaido EB04-030 | 4 | 1.75 |
| Black Maria OP08-074 | 3 | 2.33 |
| Sugar EB05-034 | 3 | 2.00 |
| Donquixote Doflamingo OP14-069 | 3 | 1.67 |
crossai8 is one of the two lists with no
OP17-063
OP17-063Shop on TCGplayer Kaido, the 10-cost that negates and K.O.s a cost-6-or-less Character on the turn it's played. Those slots went to two Sugar and a full four Queen OP17-065, where the 16-list average is 2.31.
EB05-034
EB05-034Shop on TCGplayer Sugar is the second EB-05 card: a 2-cost with a 2000 Counter whose On Play pays DON!! −2 and, if you have 7 or more DON!! on your field, gives an opposing Character −4000 for the turn. In a deck that sits on 10 DON!! from turn 4, that condition is easy. Three lists ran two copies: crossai8 (6-0), kevin662 (11th of 63 at ChinoizeCup #130 on November 2, 4-2) and iakoroy (0-2 at Rumble league #15). That's too few games to credit her with anything; she's the slot we'd test first.
Slow-Slow Beam Sword OP07-076 is the most played flex card (14 of 16 lists, 3.00 copies on average), one of the two Counter Events the deck leans on: DON!! −1 for +2000 and a rested opposing Character, with a Trigger that adds 1 active DON!!. Mamaragan, the $25 card, is the other, and it's in all 16 lists at 3.94 copies: a +1000 Counter that draws a card if you have 6 or fewer DON!!, or for DON!! −2 on your turn, a draw and a rest on a 5000-or-smaller Character.
Two things the event players didn't copy from OPDeckGuide's OP-17 Kaido list, which runs three Sasaki and two Drunken Dragon Bagua: Sasaki showed up in 1 of 16 lists and Bagua in none.
The one Japanese list we could read points the other way on Black Maria. OPDeckGuide records Chopper Taro's 1st place at a CK_mizonokuchi Standard Battle on October 31, in Japan's EB05 + OP18 format, with no Black Maria EB05-037, one OP08-074 and three X.Drake. One list from one store is not a trend, but it's a reminder that she isn't mandatory.
Who Kaido beats, and who beats it
Every game the 16 lists played, by opposing Leader, from the pairings on Limitless Play. The events ran from October 19 to November 2, all best-of-one on the simulator.

Rocks is the reason to look at this deck at all. It was the most played Leader in these events, 90 of the 507 lists, and Kaido went 8-4 against it, including crossai8's round-4 win. If you haven't played against it, our Rocks.D.Xebec deck guide breaks that Leader down. Kaido also went 4-0 against Enel OP05-098, the fourth most played Leader with 32 lists.
The bad news is in the "other" row. Luffy ST10-002,
OP17-079
OP17-079Shop on TCGplayer Luffy OP17-079,
OP16-022
OP16-022Shop on TCGplayer Luffy OP16-022 and
ST30-001
ST30-001Shop on TCGplayer Luffy & Ace went a combined 8-0 against Kaido, two games each, and Buggy won 4 of 5; our Buggy EB05 decklist is the list to practice against. Two games per Leader proves nothing alone, but eight losses in eight across four of them is a pattern. Luffy OP13, the second most played Leader at 63 lists, was close to a coin flip at 5-6.
Our take: build it for a Rocks-heavy store, skip the promo Yamato
We'd build Kaido if Rocks is what your store plays, and we'd skip it if your store is full of Luffy. Sixteen lists went 35-38, a little under even, but that record splits cleanly: 8-4 against Rocks and 4-0 against Enel, 0-8 against four Luffy Leaders and 1-4 against Buggy. crossai8's 6-0 is the best result any Kaido posted, and it came on a night with three Enels and one Rocks across the table.
The money is mostly in two places. Leave out the promo Yamato P-046 (one copy, one list of 16, $49.58) and the list is about $177. Four Mamaragan are $101.24 of that and were in all 16 lists at 3.94 copies, so they stay. If you already own them, the rest is about $75, and the ramp engine itself (King, Queen, Yamato, Hawkins) is under $14 for all sixteen copies.
For the OP-17 background on this Leader, our OP-17 Kaido deck guide covers the format before EB-05, and the EB-05 card list has the rest of the set by color. Bandai's EB-05 product page lists the release as October 30, 2026 with "Tournament Legal after 7 days", and also says the cards are legal from your region's pre-release date, so check with your store.
How we checked this: card text from Bandai's official English card list and Limitless TCG card pages; lists, records and pairings from the Limitless Play public API for every One Piece event from October 19 to November 2, 2026 tagged [EB05] or with an EB-05 card in a posted list, with the Extra-format EGB events left out (10 events, 507 lists, 16 Kaido lists); prices from TCGplayer market data via tcgcsv (updated November 3, 2026), cross-checked against Limitless card pages on November 4 for the non-EB-05 cards (Limitless had no EB-05 prices yet); the King table from 100,000 simulated games per line, one run with a fixed seed (scripts/sims/optcg-kaido-eb05.py, seed 20261104); turn and DON!! rules from Bandai's comprehensive rules.
