The Black Yellow Moria deck is a Thriller Bark Pirates recursion build: it K.O.s its own Characters on purpose, replays them from the trash, and uses the leader's attack to pad its Life. This guide uses the 50-card list that took 1st at a September 27, 2026 Flagship, checked card by card against Bandai's official text, plus the tracker numbers behind it.

TL;DR: OP14-080OP14-080 card artOP14-080Shop on TCGplayer Gecko Moria (Black/Yellow, 4 Life) K.O.s one of your Thriller Bark Pirates Characters to give your whole board +1000 power, and trashes 3 cards on attack to add a card to Life. The Flagship list runs four Charlotte Pudding to refill that hand: 31 of its 50 cards carry a Trigger, so Pudding's "trash a Trigger card, draw 3" nearly always has fuel. OPMetagame rates Black/Yellow Moria A tier at a 45.4% average win rate over 31 decklists.

Black Yellow Moria Deck: Quick Answer

A Black Yellow Moria deck wins by trading its own Characters for value. The leader K.O.s a Thriller Bark Pirates Character for a board-wide power boost, cards like Dr. Hogback and Perona get paid again when they die, and the two Moria Characters pull 4-cost bodies back out of the trash. Pudding keeps the hand full enough for the leader's 3-card attack cost.

Key Takeaways

  • Gecko Moria OP14-080 is a Black/Yellow Leader with 4 Life and 5000 power, typed The Seven Warlords of the Sea/Thriller Bark Pirates
  • Its Main ability is once per turn: K.O. 1 of your Thriller Bark Pirates Characters, and your Leader and all your Characters gain +1000 power that turn
  • When attacking, you may trash 3 cards from hand to add the top card of your deck to the top of your Life
  • The Flagship list is 46 Characters plus 4 Brick Bat, and 31 of the 50 cards carry a Trigger
  • OPMetagame rates the deck A tier: 31 decklists, a 45.4% average win rate and 2.9% popularity
  • Every card in the list is Standard legal, including the Block 2 Dr. Hogback and Perona

Gecko Moria's Leader Ability, Read Closely

Moria has two abilities, and they pull in opposite directions. Bandai's text for the first: "[Activate: Main] [Once Per Turn] You may K.O. 1 of your {Thriller Bark Pirates} type Characters: Your Leader and all of your Characters gain +1000 power during this turn." The second: "[When Attacking] You may trash 3 cards from your hand: Add up to 1 card from the top of your deck to the top of your Life cards."

The first ability is a sacrifice. On its own, losing a Character for +1000 is a bad trade. It only works because so many Thriller Bark Pirates cards do something when they're K.O.'d or when they come back from the trash. The second ability is a heal that costs 3 cards, which is a steep price on any turn you aren't drawing extra.

So the whole deck is an answer to two questions. What do you K.O.? And where do the 3 cards come from? The answers are Dr. Hogback and Charlotte Pudding.

How the Thriller Bark Engine Works

Three loops carry the deck. Each one is printed on the cards, so you can check every step below against Bandai's card list.

The K.O. loop. OP14-110OP14-110 card artOP14-110Shop on TCGplayer Dr. Hogback (cost 4) reads: "[On K.O.] Play up to 1 Character card with a cost of 4 or less and a [Trigger] other than [Dr. Hogback] from your trash." K.O. it with the leader's Main ability and you get +1000 across the board plus a free Character from the trash. The best target is often OP17-109OP17-109 card artOP17-109Shop on TCGplayer Charlotte Pudding, a cost 3 Character with a Trigger, whose On Play draws again.

The draw. Pudding's On Play: "You may trash 1 card with a [Trigger] from your hand: Draw 3 cards." That is a net gain of 2 cards, and it is exactly the refill the leader's 3-card attack cost needs. Count the Triggers in the Flagship list (Hancock, Pudding, the 4-cost Hogback, the 8-cost Moria, Kumacy, the OP14 Perona, Rayleigh and Brick Bat) and you get 31 of 50 cards, so you rarely hold a hand with nothing to trash. Pudding is also the list's only Big Mom Pirates card, so her own Trigger (look at 5, take a Big Mom Pirates card) is a weak hit here.

The recursion. The 8-cost OP14-104OP14-104 card artOP14-104Shop on TCGplayer Gecko Moria selects a Thriller Bark Pirates Character costing 4 or less from your trash and either plays it or adds it to the top of your Life face-up. The 6-cost Moria (PRB02-013) plays a cost 4 or less Character from your trash rested, then gives a rested DON!! to your Leader or a Character. Dr. Hogback OP15-084 keeps the trash stocked: "trash 5 cards from the top of your deck" when your Leader is Thriller Bark Pirates.

OP14-111OP14-111 card artOP14-111Shop on TCGplayer Perona fits all three loops. Her text is "[On Play]/[On K.O.]", so she stops an opposing Character costing 6 or less from attacking when she enters and again when the leader K.O.s her.

The 8-cost Gecko Moria OP14-104 and Perona OP14-111, the trash recursion payoff and the On Play and On K.O. attack lock Image: Bandai official card list (OP14-104 and OP14-111). The 8-cost Moria returns a 4-cost Thriller Bark Character; Perona locks an attacker on play and on K.O.

Step-by-Step: Piloting Black Yellow Moria

1. Fill the trash early. A turn-one Dr. Hogback OP15-084 trashes 5 cards from the top of your deck, which gives the two Moria Characters and Brick Bat's Trigger something to pull back later.

2. Keep a Trigger card for Pudding. Pudding only draws if you can trash a card with a Trigger, so plan the hand you keep around her On Play.

3. K.O. for value, not for power alone. Use the leader's Main ability on Dr. Hogback OP14-110 or Perona OP14-111, whose On K.O. effects pay you back, and take the +1000 as the bonus.

4. Spend the 3-card heal only after a draw. The When Attacking cost is 3 cards. Pay it on turns where Pudding or Hogback has already refilled the hand, not on a thin hand facing lethal next turn.

5. Close with the high-cost Characters. OP14-112OP14-112 card artOP14-112Shop on TCGplayer Boa Hancock adds a card to your Life and takes 1 from your opponent's Life into their hand. OP14-108OP14-108 card artOP14-108Shop on TCGplayer Silvers Rayleigh K.O.s a Character with 7000 base power or less once your opponent is at 3 or fewer Life, because Moria is a multicolored Leader.

Tips for the Black Yellow Moria Deck

Count your Life before you heal. Borsalino EB04-058 only adds a Life card if you have 2 or less, so it is a late-game blocker, not an early one.

Use OP14-117OP14-117 card artOP14-117Shop on TCGplayer Brick Bat as both halves of its text. Its Counter gives a Thriller Bark Pirates Leader or Character +3000 for the battle, and its Trigger plays a Thriller Bark Pirates Character costing 4 or less from your trash.

OP14-102OP14-102 card artOP14-102Shop on TCGplayer Kumacy is a cost 1 body with a 2000 Counter and the same trash-replay Trigger. In a deck with this many self-K.O. plays, cheap bodies matter.

The Block 2 cards are fine. Limitless lists Dr. Hogback OP06-090 and Perona OP06-093 as "Block 2 Standard legal", and the 6-cost Moria PRB02-013 as Block 3.

Black Yellow Moria in the OP-17 Meta

OPMetagame rates Black/Yellow Moria A tier. It tracks 31 decklists averaging a 45.4% win rate, and the deck sits at 2.9% popularity, so you will see it far less often than the top leaders on the OP-17 meta tier list. The best tracked finish is 1st at an event the tracker labels FS(4-0), piloted by Nisshi.

All of that data predates October 12, 2026, when Bandai's ban on OP14-020 Dracule Mihawk took effect. Moria players on Reddit had been counting Mihawk among the threats Perona answers. One wrote that the deck's "Biggest advantage is that folks have already forgotten how to play against it - been freezing 6c Mihawk + 5c Oden with Perona left and right" (r/OnePieceTCG).

On Pudding versus Zoro, another long-time Moria player put it plainly: "Pudding basically solved Moria's problem, whereas Zoro is just an initial heal that turns into a useless body on the board later on." The Flagship list agrees, with four Pudding and only two Zoro.

Our take

This take is based only on the card text and tracker data cited here. Moria's leader asks for two costs, a Character and 3 cards, and OP-17 gave it the missing piece for the second one: Pudding draws 3, and a list with 31 Trigger cards out of 50 can feed her almost every time. The numbers say A tier with low popularity, so it is a deck that rewards practice more than one you will face every round. The Mihawk ban changes the field around it from October 12, and the tracker figures above are from before that date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Black Yellow Moria decklist in OP-17? The newest Flagship-winning list on OPMetagame, from a September 27, 2026 Flagship, runs 46 Characters and 4 Brick Bat Events. Its core is four copies each of Charlotte Pudding, the 8-cost and 6-cost Gecko Moria, two Dr. Hogback prints, Kumacy, both Peronas, Boa Hancock and Borsalino.

Is Black Yellow Moria good in OP-17? OPMetagame rates Black/Yellow Moria A tier, with 31 tracked decklists averaging a 45.4% win rate and 2.9% popularity. That makes it a strong but uncommon pick rather than a top-share deck, and the data predates the October 12, 2026 Mihawk ban.

What does the Gecko Moria leader OP14-080 do? Once per turn as a Main action, Moria can K.O. one of your Thriller Bark Pirates Characters to give your Leader and every Character +1000 power that turn. When attacking, you may trash 3 cards from hand to add the top card of your deck to your Life.

Why does Moria play Charlotte Pudding? Pudding's On Play lets you trash 1 card with a Trigger from hand to draw 3 cards. Moria's attack ability eats 3 hand cards at a time, and 31 of the 50 cards in the Flagship list carry a Trigger, so Pudding almost always has fuel and refills the hand Moria spends.

Are the Block 2 Moria cards still legal in Standard? Yes. Limitless lists Dr. Hogback OP06-090 and Perona OP06-093 as Block 2 Standard legal, and the 6-cost Gecko Moria PRB02-013 as Block 3 Standard legal. Every card in the Flagship list is legal in the current Standard format.
