Kalgara Deck List for OP-17: Two Yellow Lists Compared

Two Kalgara lists, one shell. The real choice is a handful of flex slots, not the deck.

10 min readBy Alex Chen

Our callCopy Nightingale's winning list over BMKid's 3rd-place build, but wait for post-ban results before calling Kalgara a top deck: two lists is a thin sample.

A Kalgara deck spends Life to cheat Characters into play, then buys that Life back, and if you're choosing between the two OP-17 lists, start from Nightingale's September 30 winner. BMKid's 3rd-place list agrees with it on almost the whole deck, so the real decision is a few flex slots; the one OP-17 card, Sweet 3 Generals, does a job the deck already needed.

TL;DR: Kalgara OP08-098 (Yellow, 5 Life, 5000 power) plays a Shandian Warrior from your hand when it attacks, then moves your top Life card to your hand. The two OP-17 lists on OPMetagame share 44 of 50 cards, and 21 of their Characters are Shandian Warriors the leader can play. OPMetagame put Yellow Kalgara in S tier on October 9 from only 2 OP-17 decklists, all from before the October 12 Mihawk ban.

Kalgara Deck: Quick Answer

A Kalgara deck is a Yellow midrange list. The leader puts a Shandian Warrior into play for free on each attack, and cards like Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino and Sweet 3 Generals add cards back to your Life to pay for it. The September winner runs 4 each of Borsalino, three Wyper printings, two Kalgara printings, Mont Blanc Noland and Upper Yard.

Key Takeaways

  • The leader is Kalgara OP08-098, Yellow, typed Jaya/Sky Island/Shandian Warrior.
  • Nightingale won ChinoizeCup #117 Wednesday on September 30 with 41 Characters, 5 Events and 4 Stages.
  • BMKid's 3rd-place list from September 28 shares 44 of those 50 cards.
  • Sweet 3 Generals OP17-114 is the only OP-17 card in either list.
  • OPMetagame put Yellow Kalgara in S tier on October 9, from 2 OP-17 decklists.

The OP08-098 Leader, Read Closely

Kalgara OP08-098 is a Yellow Leader with 5 Life and 5000 power from Two Legends (OP-08). Its effect is [DON!! x1] [When Attacking]: play up to 1 Shandian Warrior Character card from your hand with a cost equal to or less than the number of DON!! cards on your field. If you do, add 1 card from the top of your Life cards to your hand.

Two details shape the whole list. The cost cap is the number of DON!! cards on your field, so with 5 DON!! out, a 5-cost Wyper comes down for free on your leader's attack. And each free play costs a Life card. The rest of the deck is built to refill that Life.

The September Kalgara Deck List

This is Nightingale's 1st-place list from ChinoizeCup #117 Wednesday, an online event on September 30, 2026. It has 50 cards plus the leader.

That is 50 cards: 41 Characters, 5 Events and 4 Stages. Sweet 3 Generals links to its page in our card database; the rest link to Limitless.

By Bandai's printed values, 12 Characters carry a 2000 Counter (Nami OP15-108, Zeus and the 4- and 6-cost Wypers), 24 carry 1000, and 5 have none (Kalgara OP15-101 and Luffy). The Earth Will Not Lose! adds a +3000 Counter Event on top.

What the Leader Can Play for Free

Only Shandian Warriors qualify for the leader's free play. In the winning list those are the three Kalgara Characters and the three Wypers, 21 cards in all. Mont Blanc Noland is typed Jaya/Botanist, and Borsalino, both Namis, Zeus, Luffy and Sweet 3 Generals are not Shandian Warriors either, so they are hard-cast.

Kalgara OP15-101, Wyper OP08-110 and Kalgara OP12-099, three of the Shandian Warriors the leader can play Image: Bandai official card list

Kalgara OP15-101 (x4). A 3-cost with no Counter. On Play, you may trash 1 card from hand to look at 5 cards and add up to 2 Mont Blanc Noland or Shandian Warrior cards. It is the deck's main search.

Wyper OP08-110 (x4). A 4-cost with a 2000 Counter. On Play, it looks at 5 cards for Upper Yard, adds it, and plays an Upper Yard from your hand.

Kalgara OP12-099 (x4). On your turn, whenever a card leaves your Life or your opponent's Life, you draw 1, and then you cannot draw with your own effects that turn. The leader's Life-to-hand step sets it off.

Wyper OP15-114 (x4). On Play, you may turn your top Life card face-up to give all opposing Characters -2000 power this turn and K.O. every one at 0 power or less.

Wyper OP12-114 (x4) and Kalgara OP08-099 (x1). Vanilla bodies: a 6-cost 7000 with a 2000 Counter and a 6-cost 8000 with a 1000 Counter.

The Life refills come from the hard-cast cards. Mont Blanc Noland adds the top card of your deck to your Life if your leader is a Shandian Warrior and you have a Kalgara Character. Borsalino is a Blocker that does the same when you have 2 or less Life.

Where Sweet 3 Generals Fits

OP17-114OP17-114 card artOP17-114Shop on TCGplayer Sweet 3 Generals is a 6-cost Big Mom Pirates Character with 4000 power and a 1000 Counter. Its [Your Turn] [On Play] lets you rest 2 DON!! to draw 1, add the top card of your deck to the top of your Life, and give up to 2 opposing Characters -3000 power this turn. Its Trigger plays it for free.

Read against the rest of the list, it does two jobs. It refills a Life card, which pays for a leader activation. And its -3000 stacks with Wyper OP15-114's -2000 on the same turn: a 5000-power Character hit by both lands at 0 and is K.O.'d by Wyper's sweep.

Two Lists Compared: 44 Shared Cards

OPMetagame tracks two OP-17 Kalgara lists: Nightingale's September 30 win and BMKid's 3rd place at ChinoizeCup #115 Monday on September 28. Taking the lower copy count for each card, they share 44 of 50 cards. 30 cards are identical: 4 Borsalino, 4 Kalgara OP15-101, 4 Kalgara OP12-099, 4 Mont Blanc Noland, 4 Wyper OP08-110, 4 Wyper OP15-114, 2 Zeus and 4 Upper Yard.

BMKid leans on bodies (43 Characters, 13 of them with a 2000 Counter). Nightingale cuts two Luffys, two small Namis, a Kalgara OP08-099 and You're the One Who Should Disappear., and adds two more The Earth Will Not Lose!, a Kingdom Come, and one more each of Nami EB03-053, Sweet 3 Generals and Wyper OP12-114.

A list posted on October 8 by the YouTube channel NightingaleTCG, in the video "[OP17.5] Kalgara Guide" embedded below, moves one more slot: 3 Mont Blanc Noland and 2 Kalgara OP08-099.

Step-by-Step: Piloting Kalgara

1. Set up Upper Yard early. Wyper OP08-110 finds and plays it, and Upper Yard's own On Play looks at 5 cards for a Sky Island card.

2. Search with Kalgara OP15-101. Trash a card you cannot use to take two Shandian Warriors or Noland from the top 5.

3. Attack with the leader once it has a DON!!. Count the DON!! cards on your field and play the best Shandian Warrior at or under that number.

4. Refill the Life you spent. Mont Blanc Noland needs a Kalgara Character in play. Borsalino only refills at 2 Life or less. Sweet 3 Generals refills on your turn for 2 rested DON!!.

5. Stack power reduction before the sweep. Play Sweet 3 Generals first, then let the leader's attack drop Wyper OP15-114, so -3000 and -2000 land on the same Characters.

6. Keep Kingdom Come for the last turn. It K.O.s any Character, then trashes your Life down to 1, so it only fits a turn you expect to win.

Tips for the Kalgara Deck

Count 2000 Counters. In a June 30 thread asking for advice on a Kalgara list, one player wrote: "I did try multiple ratio of 2ks and 14 feels so good." (u/Puzzleheaded_Cat6664 on r/OnePieceTCG) The two OP-17 lists run 12 and 13.

Borsalino stays. In the same thread another player said: "Borsa is a must, though." (u/Amante on r/OnePieceTCG) Both OP-17 lists run 4. Borsalino EB04-058 is half of a Bandai banned pair with I Re-Quasar Helllp!! OP07-115, which neither list plays.

Mind Kalgara OP12-099's draw lock. After its draw, you cannot draw with your own effects that turn. Use Sweet 3 Generals' draw before a Life card moves, not after.

Zeus costs a Life card. Its On Play adds a card from the top or bottom of your Life to your hand to K.O. a Character with a cost of 5 or less. That also sets off Kalgara OP12-099.

Kalgara in the OP-17 Meta

On October 9, OPMetagame's tier list placed Yellow Kalgara in S tier with 2 OP-17 decklists. Its leader page tracks 67 decklists across formats with a 46.5% average win rate, and its best tracked finish is 1st place at Treasure Cup Warsaw, piloted by Minh Vi.

Two decklists is a thin sample, and both came before October 12, when Bandai's ban on Dracule Mihawk OP14-020 took effect. Bandai said the Mihawk card "significantly restricts the viability of Leader cards with the {Slash} attribute", and Kalgara OP08-098 is a Slash leader. Creators read the ban as good news: NightingaleTCG's September 16 video is titled "Kalgara can actually keep up! (just dodge Mihawk)", and Definitive posted "[OP17] Mihawk is GONE! Kalgara is FREE!" on September 27. For every banned and restricted card, see our One Piece TCG banlist explainer.

Our take

Kalgara is a settled shell with one new card. 30 of 50 cards match exactly, and the only OP-17 piece does the job the deck already needed: it refills Life and lowers power for the Wyper sweep.

The weak point is the sample. Two tracked lists, both from online ChinoizeCup events and both from before the ban, are not enough to call it a top deck on their own. We would build from Nightingale's list, keep 12 to 13 Characters with a 2000 Counter, and check OPMetagame again once results from after October 12 come in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Kalgara deck list for OP-17? The newest 1st place on OPMetagame is Nightingale's list from ChinoizeCup #117 Wednesday on September 30, 2026: 41 Characters, 5 Events and 4 Upper Yard. BMKid's 3rd-place list from September 28 shares 44 of its 50 cards.

What does the Kalgara leader do? Kalgara OP08-098 is a Yellow leader with 5 Life and 5000 power. With 1 DON!! attached, when it attacks you may play a Shandian Warrior Character from your hand with a cost up to the number of DON!! on your field. If you do, you add your top Life card to your hand.

Which OP-17 card does Kalgara play? Sweet 3 Generals OP17-114. Both September lists run it, 3 copies in the winner and 2 in the 3rd-place list. On your turn its On Play lets you rest 2 DON!! to draw 1, add a card to the top of your Life and give up to 2 opposing Characters -3000 power.

Is Kalgara good in OP-17? OPMetagame's tier list placed Yellow Kalgara in S tier on October 9, 2026, from 2 OP-17 decklists. Its leader page tracks 67 decklists across formats with a 46.5% average win rate. The OP-17 sample is small, so treat the tier as a signal, not a verdict.

Does the Mihawk ban help Kalgara? Creators expect so. NightingaleTCG titled a September video 'Kalgara can actually keep up! (just dodge Mihawk)', and Definitive posted '[OP17] Mihawk is GONE! Kalgara is FREE!' on September 27, after Bandai announced a ban on Dracule Mihawk OP14-020 from October 12, 2026. No post-ban results were tracked when we checked on October 9.
